Fishing near Oxford

The Thames runs through the middle of Oxford as the Isis, and the Cherwell joins it from the north — two rivers, several controlling bodies, and a good deal of confusion about which stretch is which.

We hold nine waters here: eight river stretches and one lake. Everything below is within 15 km.

By permission: six reported as club membership water, two as free fishing and one as club day ticket water. The two free waters are the hardest of these to establish and the most worth knowing.

Eight of the nine carry the river close season, 15 March to 15 June. The other one is reported fishable all year.

Species reported most often: chub at two, perch at two and roach at one. Reported by anglers, not surveyed.
